The Gippsland Water Factory Project Alliance
A ‘project alliance’ is made up a group of participants that work collaboratively and sharing equal responsibility for the design, construction and commissioning of a project.
The Gippsland Water Factory Project Alliance includes a principal sponsor, Gippsland Water, and a consortium of three specialised companies that will provide design and construction services.
The three specialised companies are: Transfield Services Limited: a leading provider of capital project management services; CH2M HILL: a global leader in full-service engineering, construction and operations in the water and wastewater sector; and Parsons Brinckerhoff: a leader in engineering delivery services in environment and infrastructure.
As the principal sponsor, Gippsland Water will take possession of the Gippsland Water Factory upon project completion.
How was the project alliance chosen?
Gippsland Water chose an alliance that brings together participants with the best major design and construction skills. A number of independent advisers including legal, probity and financial facilitators assisted Gippsland Water in evaluating project proposals and determining the most suitable project alliance team to produce outstanding results.
A comprehensive selection process took place to choose the successful alliance, including the submission of a proposal, interviews and workshops.
Why was a project alliance chosen?
A project alliance model was selected to deliver the Gippsland Water Factory following independent advice and research that proved this method is the most suitable for the delivery of a project of this nature. The model allows all participants to share the project risks and responsibilities, and enables Gippsland Water to play a key role in design and construction.
By using an alliance, Gippsland Water has assembled the team with the most knowledge and expertise to deliver the project.
