The Gippsland Water Factory is an environmental solution to an environmental problem.

Some of the most environmentally significant aspects of the Gippsland Water Factory are:

• Regional Outfall Sewer (ROS) odour - we will address the odour issue by sending only highly treated wastewater down the ROS.
• Fresh water savings – we will be saving 3 billion litres of fresh water every year.
• Caring for our environment while we work – we have undertaken cultural heritage studies, are implementing responsible vegetation management and best practice environmental standards.
• Green energy – our treatment methods help us power the plant.

Raw sewage currently flows down the regional outfall sewer (ROS) before it reaches Duston Downs for treatment (see above).  When the Gippsland Water Factory is operational, only highly treated wastewater will travel down the ROS.
